Exciting new for Jensen and all those involved with The Family Business Beer Company (Danneel Ackles, Gino Graul, Nate Seale) – while the destination brewery opened its doors for its debut in Dripping Springs, Texas in January this year they are already planning on opening their second location in the fall of next year!
The second location will be part of St. Elmo’s Public Market, a new 40,000-square-foot market which will be Austin’s first true artisan food retail marketplace, a one-of-a-kind, highly curated destination for local foods, beverages, and restaurants. Head brewer Nate Seale was quoted to say how they will be using this new location to test out new beers, as well as one-offs and special twists on the beers they are currently serving in their Dripping Springs location.
I can’t wait to see what the next stage in this brewing adventure brings for Jensen and all the gang at The Family Business and I am sure they will share exciting moments with us along the way, just as they did with FBBC!
Today a new, recent interview with Jensen, and wife Danneel, was shared by Forbes. The interview took place at The Family Business Brewery where they talked in-depth about the venture and even their plans for the future – below is a small snippet from the interview which you can read in full here.
‘The idea of moving to Austin came up, and we thought it would be really cool to have a little brewery that was self-sustainable and kind of a passion project.” adds Jensen. “We went down to Austin to check out the craft brewing scene, and it was the right location for starting something since the market was really starting to take off. There were only a few breweries, and they were really starting to see a market increase. We all decided to move the business to Austin and then shopped around for a spot to set up shop.”
“We ended up buying some land just outside of town and building from the ground up,” says Danneel. “It was a little bit more of an investment as opposed to renting a place, but we decided to just kind of go all in from the beginning. Everything that has happened so far with the brewery has been very organic, and while we were looking around for places, my Uncle (who had 365 acres out in Dripping Springs), called and said the little ranch next to him with 15 acres was going up for sale. We went out there, and it was absolutely perfect, and we bought it immediately. Then our whole concept started to evolve and change, and that’s how we ended up with the destination brewery. All we originally wanted was a little tiny spot” says Danneel.
As well as a great interview there were gorgeous photos taken! You can see them in our gallery now;
Exciting news – this year at SXSW the SXSWXDC Super Hero Lair will feature exclusive beer tastings from none other than The Family Business! The event itself runs from March 9-18 and below is some information from Bleeding Cool on what visitors can expect;
Oswald’s (with Free Beer): The bar and nightclub featured on WBTV’s Gotham (Thursdays at 8/7c on FOX)is owned and operated by Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin. From 6:00–10:00 p.m. nightly, Oswald’s will be offering free beer tastings directly from local Austin brewery Family Business Beer Company, which was recently opened by Supernatural star — and local resident — Jensen Ackles.
As of yet we have no news on whether Jensen or any members of the brewery will be attending at any time.
Over the weekend Jensen, alongside wife Danneel took part in interviews and press held at their brewery The Family Business, which will be officially opening to the public this Wednesday. Press who got to visit and carry out interviews have been sharing articles and photos of their time; I have uploaded some new photos to the gallery and you can watch an interview which Jensen and Danneel did for Fox7Austin’s Good News segment.
The above video interview was shared by Fox7Austin.
Another great interview was carried out by KXAN where they talked with all members of the brewery (Jensen, Danneel Ackles, Gino Graul and Nate Seales) as well as sharing great photos of the inside of the brewery which you can view by visiting their full article.
When Ackles started homebrewing with his brother-in-law Gino Graul in Los Angeles, it was just a hobby.
“We would go in the backyard and tried to brew our own beer. It was horrible,” says Ackles with a chuckle. “Our friends were very kind and said that it wasn’t.”
Fast forward several years and the idea of starting a craft brewery became a reality when Ackles and his wife decided to move back to Texas after having their first child. Ackles, who is originally from North Texas, and Danneel Ackles, who is from Louisiana, always enjoyed visiting friends in Austin.
The first few days of the new year have been very exciting for the Ackles! This week several press and magazines etc. got the opportunity to visit The Family Business Brewery in Austin to hear more about the venture. Several press outlets shared photos and sneak-peaks from their visit with articles etc. promised to be shared soon – here are some excerpts from an article shared by Austin360 who were at the event;
He and Danneel, also an important figure at the brewery, moved to Austin from Los Angeles because they wanted to be closer to family — the Graul parents live nearby. And from the start, the brewery has been a family affair. That’s where the name came from, though it had originally been a placeholder for something else, Ackles said.
“We racked our brains for close to two years because everyone emphasizes how important the name is to the success of the brewery,” he said. “Andwe just kept calling it the family business because family was pretty much all that was involved with it. But at one point, we said, ‘What if we just call it that?’
“We want people to appreciate the quality, appreciate the experience,” he said. Danneel “and I have always loved entertaining people at our home, and this is kind of an extension of that. This gives an opportunity to do something we’re passionate about and be part of an industry we are really proud of.”
Today Jensen and Danneel took part in a Facebook Live with Fox7Austin which you can view here. They shared that the brewery will be officially opening on Wednesday 10th of January 2018 (due to work commitments Jensen will not be in attendance).
Several photos from the day have now been added to the gallery as well as a photo from last night when a preview opening for family and friends was also held.
